Our Deacons and Elders

Pastor Rupert Abbott

Rupert and Janet were supported by Glebe Chapel when they served as missionaries for 19 years doing agricultural development work in Pakistan and working with an International Church in Chiang Mai, Thailand. When they returned to the U.K. at the end of 2011 Rupert was invited to work part-time for Glebe Chapel in a pastoral capacity, so he does that for 2 days a week and for the other 3 days he works as Operations Director for Echoes – the Mission Service Group with whom they served when they were overseas. Rupert and Janet are foster carers and they have 5 children and three grandchildren.

Ian Cracknell - Elder

Ian has been privileged to live and work on a dairy farm, enjoying and experiencing God’s creation. Glebe has been part of his life since as a child, he accepted Jesus as Saviour. At 18 he responded to God’s call to be involved in work with children and young people. During this time Ian met and married Ju (who also was a youth leader) and later felt God prompting him to become involved in Glebe’s leadership team where he is presently serving the Lord as an elder.

Tim Dean - Elder

Tim and family moved to Newent in 1992 and settled into life in this wonderful market town where they have made many friends. Tim works as a support worker for a local charity and enjoys following Newent Rugby. He has been on the leadership team at Glebe Chapel for a number of years and enjoys the fun, fellowship and laughter within our church.

Andrew Cox - Elder

Andrew joined the Eldership team at Glebe in 2013. He is married to Andrea who runs many children’s activities for the church. After a spell in the Army, Andrew now works in the High Dependency Unit at GRH. In his spare time he is part of a team that travels to remote parts of Tanzania in order to support the developing medical services in that region.

Dean Fletcher - Elder

Dean was born in Yorkshire, but unfortunately was never good enough to play cricket for them! At the age of 5 he moved to Ledbury where he lived until 1990 when he married Penny and moved to Newent. They have 3 children (Dan, Brad and Jodie), 2 cats, a dog and 2 guinea pigs. Dean works for a local charity as a registered manager of a care home that supports adults with a wide spectrum of issues relating to their learning difficulties. Dean loves watching sport especially rugby and cricket. His passion is Jesus and any form of evangelism and outreach.

Richard Pontin-Meads - Deacon

With his financial training Richard brings an important dimension to the leadership at Glebe. He became a Christian in 2005 after attending Glebe for a couple of years. He is married to Lisa and they have two daughters, a cat, two guinea pigs and 2 goldfish!

Nathan Cracknell - Deacon

Nathan grew up on a dairy farm and after doing his A-levels at Newent School worked locally for two years before going on to do a degree in theology. Since finishing his degree he has returned to the farm and is actively involved with the youth work at Glebe.

Jan Daines - Deacon

Originally from the Hampshire/Dorset border, Jan has lived in the Newent area since 1987. He is married to Lindy and they have 2 ‘grown-up’ married children, Luke and Rosie. After university, Jan taught chemistry in a number of schools before moving into school leadership. He has worked in the UK and overseas and currently juggles a number of education and charity consultancy roles including work that oversees the development at the Newent Community Centre. A Christian for 20 years, Jan enjoys sporting and outdoor activities and, when time allows, music, art and theatre too.
