Pastor Rupert Abbott
Rupert and Janet were supported by Glebe Chapel when they served as missionaries for 19 years doing agricultural development work in Pakistan and working with an International Church in Chiang Mai, Thailand. When they returned to the U.K. at the end of 2011 Rupert was invited to work part-time for Glebe Chapel in a pastoral capacity, so he does that for 2 days a week and for the other 3 days he works as Operations Director for Echoes – the Mission Service Group with whom they served when they were overseas. Rupert and Janet are foster carers and they have 5 children and three grandchildren.
Ian Cracknell - Elder
Ian has been privileged to live and work on a dairy farm, enjoying and experiencing God’s creation. Glebe has been part of his life since as a child, he accepted Jesus as Saviour. At 18 he responded to God’s call to be involved in work with children and young people. During this time Ian met and married Ju (who also was a youth leader) and later felt God prompting him to become involved in Glebe’s leadership team where he is presently serving the Lord as an elder.
Tim Dean - ElderTim and family moved to Newent in 1992 and settled into life in this wonderful market town where they have made many friends. Tim works as a support worker for a local charity and enjoys following Newent Rugby. He has been on the leadership team at Glebe Chapel for a number of years and enjoys the fun, fellowship and laughter within our church.
Andrew Cox - Elder
Andrew joined the Eldership team at Glebe in 2013. He is married to Andrea who runs many children’s activities for the church. After a spell in the Army, Andrew now works in the High Dependency Unit at GRH. In his spare time he is part of a team that travels to remote parts of Tanzania in order to support the developing medical services in that region.
Dean Fletcher - Elder
Dean was born in Yorkshire, but unfortunately was never good enough to play cricket for them! At the age of 5 he moved to Ledbury where he lived until 1990 when he married Penny and moved to Newent. They have 3 children (Dan, Brad and Jodie), 2 cats, a dog and 2 guinea pigs. Dean works for a local charity as a registered manager of a care home that supports adults with a wide spectrum of issues relating to their learning difficulties. Dean loves watching sport especially rugby and cricket. His passion is Jesus and any form of evangelism and outreach.
Richard Pontin-Meads - DeaconWith his financial training Richard brings an important dimension to the leadership at Glebe. He became a Christian in 2005 after attending Glebe for a couple of years. He is married to Lisa and they have two daughters, a cat, two guinea pigs and 2 goldfish!
Nathan Cracknell - Deacon
Nathan grew up on a dairy farm and after doing his A-levels at Newent School worked locally for two years before going on to do a degree in theology. Since finishing his degree he has returned to the farm and is actively involved with the youth work at Glebe.
Jan Daines - Deacon
Originally from the Hampshire/Dorset border, Jan has lived in the Newent area since 1987. He is married to Lindy and they have 2 ‘grown-up’ married children, Luke and Rosie. After university, Jan taught chemistry in a number of schools before moving into school leadership. He has worked in the UK and overseas and currently juggles a number of education and charity consultancy roles including work that oversees the development at the Newent Community Centre. A Christian for 20 years, Jan enjoys sporting and outdoor activities and, when time allows, music, art and theatre too.
Mark Goulding - DeaconMark has been part of the ‘Glebe Family’ all his life, having served as a Deacon previously he was re-appointed this year. Married to Rachel they have a son and three daughters. Having been brought up on a farm, Mark now runs his own Agricultural Engineering business
Jan Hencher - Deacon
Jan has been involved in full-time Christian work with her husband Mike for nearly 40 years. Nowadays her 7 grandchildren keep her pretty well occupied too!
Mwaape Masonde - Deacon
Originally from Zambia where he worked in accountancy, he is married to Beccy and they have a daughter, Kyeya born in July 2015.
Stephen and Christine Smeaton - Chapel TreasurersSteve worked in the nuclear industry for the last 34 years, he took early retirement 7 years ago and now works just two days a week for the same company. Christine worked for the Probation Service for 28 years and took early retirement 5 years ago. They now have 6 grandchildren and enjoy the fellowship at Glebe Chapel.
Graham Highton - Deacons' Secretary
Graham was a Deacon from the early 2010 until the end of 2015 Graham has served as secretary and, more recently, as the missionary support deacon. He has been involved in three Missionary Weekends. He has been re-appointed Secretary to the Deacons in January 2016.
